Create a New Image
You can create a new image in several ways:
From the Menu Bar: Choose File > New to create a blank image. A dialog will appear where you can set the following options:
- Preset: / Width: / Height:: Choose a preset size or enter custom dimensions. Available units include pixels, inches, cm, mm, and feet.
- From Clipboard: Uses the dimensions of the image currently in your clipboard.
- Full Screen: Uses the dimensions of your Mac's display.
- Full Screen View Port: Uses the display dimensions, excluding the menu bar and Dock.
- Resolution:: Defaults to your Mac's screen resolution. It is recommended to keep the default unless you need a specific resolution for printing.
- Image Background Color:: Set the initial background color. Choose the transparent color if you do not want a solid background.
Tips
You can change these settings at any time after creating the image:
- To change the size or resolution, choose Image > Adjust Sizeā¦.
- To change the background color, click the background color button in the Bottom Bar.

From Clipboard: Choose File > New from Clipboard to create a new document using an image currently copied to your clipboard.
From the Open Panel: Click Create New or New from Clipboard in the Open Panel when the app launches.
Once created, a new document window will open, ready for you to draw, sketch, or edit.
