Remove image background

Sometimes, we want to remove the background of an image. You can do this with this app.

Remove the background of the whole image

If you have opened an image with this app and want to remove its background, you can choose the Image > Remove Image Background menu in the top menu bar. At this time, the app will try to detect the background of the image with AI and remove the background if it find a suitable background. Important

This menu is only available on macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later.

If the menu above is not available or the app can't find a suitable background or you want to remove the background manually, you can choose the magic selection tool and use it to select the background manually and then delete the selected area by clicking the delete key on your keyboard.

Remove the background by replacing colors

You can choose the eyedropper tool and use it to choose the background color. Then you can replace it with the clear color to remvoe the image background.

Sometimes, the background has more than one colors, then you can choose a selection tool and use it to select some part of the image background. And then you can choose the Image > Replace Selected Colors... menu in the top menu bar. A panel will pop up. In it you can choose the clear color and then replace all the colors in the selected area with the clear color throughout the image. The image background will also be removed.

Remove the background of an image layer/object

If you have added an image onto the canvas and want to remove its background instead of the whole image, you can select it and then choose the Object > Remove Image Background menu in the top menu bar. Then the app will try to detect the background for the selected image with AI and remove the background if the app finds a suitable background in it.
