Content Library
The Library is Paint S's built-in source of shapes, icons, and emoji, and it also stores the images you import and the objects you favorite — everything you insert often, ready for reuse in any document.
Open the Library
- In the toolbar, click the Shape segment of the tools control, or choose Tool > Shape, Icon, Emoji… (
⌥N). - To go straight to importing, choose Object > Import Image… (
⌥I) or click the Add Image button in the toolbar. The Library opens at its Imported section.
Type in the search field to filter the whole Library by name; items also stay visible when their section or group title matches. Fluent UI icons and Noto emoji match their tags, and imported items match their file name.
Sections
- Recent: The items you inserted last, up to 15, newest first. It appears once you have inserted something.
- Favorites: Items you starred, up to 100. When full, the oldest favorite is replaced. Hover over any item and click its star to add or remove it.
- Imported: The images you brought in from your Mac (see Import Your Own Images). This section is always listed, even when empty.
- Shapes: 42 built-in shapes, including the basic figures — Rectangle, Square, Round Rectangle, Ellipse, Circle, Triangle, and Equilateral Triangle — plus arrows, stars, hearts, speech bubbles, and more.
- Fluent UI Icons: A large icon set in one list.
- Material Symbols: Another large icon set in 18 categories. Some icons offer variants (such as different stroke styles): hover over the icon, click the small ▾ button, and pick one. Your choice is remembered.
- Noto Emoji: The full emoji set, organized into 13 categories.
Insert an Item
- Shapes: Selecting a shape makes it your drawing tool. Click and drag on the canvas to draw it. For closed shapes you can also click once to place a default-sized one; arrows and freeform polygons must be dragged.
- Icons, emoji, favorites, and images: Double-click an item, or select it and click OK (
Return), to insert it as an object at the center of the visible canvas area. Then move, resize, or transform it as needed. - Press
Escto close the Library without inserting.
Single-color vector icons that use the currentColor placeholder are tinted with your current fill color or gradient when inserted, so they match your design. Other single-color icons keep their original color, and multi-color icons, photos, and PDFs always do. You can recolor a placed single-color icon later in the Fill attributes.
Import Your Own Images
Click Import… at the bottom of the Library and choose files from your Mac. Supported formats include PNG, JPEG, TIFF, GIF, BMP, WebP, HEIC, JPEG 2000, PSD, PICT, ICO, ICNS, SVG, and PDF. Imported files have no size limit, and the Library holds up to 1,000 of them; when full, the earliest imported item is removed.
Items are also added automatically when you drag an image onto the canvas or paste one, as long as the file is no larger than 10 MB. The copy stored in the Library lets you reuse the image in any document, in place and at any size.
To delete an imported item, right-click it and choose Delete, then confirm. This removes only the copy stored in the Library — the original file on your Mac is not affected.
Reuse Canvas Objects
Draw an object you want to use again — a badge, an arrow, a hand-drawn mark — then right-click it and choose Add to Favorites. It appears in the Library's Favorites section, and you can insert it into any document. The saved copy keeps the object's shadow; reflection is not included. Choose Remove from Favorites in the same menu to delete it.
